# Verification errors

> Look up the message you saw while verifying, find out what it means, and fix it.

Find the message you saw below. Most errors come from a check the server turned on, and you can fix them yourself. If you can't, contact the server's staff. Only they can let you in without passing a check.

## The server's checks

| Message | What to do |
| - | - |
| Account age doesn't meet server's minimum requirement | Your Discord account is too new for this server. The DM says when you can try again. |
| Avatar required | Set a profile picture in Discord, then verify again. |
| Enable 2 Factor Authentication in your account | [Turn on two-factor authentication](https://docsm.authenticateme.xyz/help/verification-errors/2fa.md). |
| VPN detected | [Turn off your VPN or proxy](https://docsm.authenticateme.xyz/help/verification-errors/vpn-detected.md). |
| Mobile data detected | Switch to Wi-Fi and verify again. |
| Blocked by GeoGate, or Not allowed by GeoGate | The server doesn't accept members from your country. Contact the server's staff. |

| Disposable email detected | Change your Discord email to a regular provider in **User Settings → My Account**. |
| Privacy focused settings detected | [Use a browser with default settings](https://docsm.authenticateme.xyz/help/verification-errors/privacy-settings.md). |
| Anti-detect browser detected, or Virtual machine detected | [Use a regular browser on a regular device](https://docsm.authenticateme.xyz/help/verification-errors/vm-anti-detect-browser.md). |
| Incognito mode detected | Open the link in a normal window instead of a private one. |
| Developer tools detected | Close your browser's developer tools and verify again. |
| Automated browser detected, Fake user agent detected, or Browser tampering detected | Use a regular browser such as Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox, without extensions that change how it identifies itself. |
| Rooted device detected | Verify from a device that isn't rooted or jailbroken. |
| Threat detected | Your browser looked automated or risky. Follow the [Before you start](https://docsm.authenticateme.xyz/help/how-to-verify.md#before-you-start) tips and try another device. |
| Maximum verification attempts reached | [You've used all your attempts](https://docsm.authenticateme.xyz/help/verification-errors/max-verifications-attempts.md). |
| You're on cooldown for | Wait for the time shown, then try again. |

| Timeout error. Clear browser cookies or try another browser | [Try another browser](https://docsm.authenticateme.xyz/help/verification-errors/timeout.md). |
| You need a state to verify | The link is incomplete. Get a new one by clicking **Verify** in the server. |
| You left the server | Rejoin the server, then verify again. |

## The server's setup

These mean the server's staff need to fix something. Let them know, and include the message you saw.

| Message | What staff need to do |

| The bot's role is below the verified role, inform staff to move it above | [Move AuthenticateMe's role above the Verified Role](https://docsm.authenticateme.xyz/help/verification-errors/hierarchy.md). |
| The bot is missing the 'Manage Roles' permission | Give AuthenticateMe **Manage Roles**. |
| The verified role no longer exists | Pick a new Verified Role on the dashboard. |
| App isn't in the server. Ask SERVER staff to add it | Add AuthenticateMe back to the server. |
| The server you're trying to verify in is not configured | Set up AuthenticateMe on the dashboard. |

Press **Contact Support** on the verification page. Depending on the server, it opens a private help thread with the server's staff or takes you to the [AuthenticateMe Support Server](https://discord.gg/KdcYHcQ). Include a screenshot of the error.
