# Bypass links

> Send a member a personal verification link that skips the checks they can't pass, without turning those checks off for everyone.

A bypass link is a one-off verification link for a single member that skips the checks you choose. It's the safe way to let in a real member who keeps failing one check, such as a VPN they can't turn off, while everyone else still goes through it.

## Create a bypass link

**1. Open the bypass window**

Run `/create-bypass user:@member`, or right-click the member and choose **Apps → Create Bypass**. You need **Manage Roles** by default.

**2. Choose the checks to skip**

**Select bypasses** lists every check that's turned on and runs in your verification mode. Pick only the ones the member needs.

**3. Choose how to send it**

| Option | What happens |
| - | - |
| Notify via DM and Channel | The default. The link is sent by DM, and the member is pinged in the channel where you ran the command. |
| Notify via DM | The link is only sent by DM. |
| Notify via Channel | The member is only pinged in the channel where you ran the command. |
| Don't Notify | Nothing is sent, and you share the link yourself. |

**4. Set how long it lasts**

**Session timeout in hours** can be 1 to 168 hours, which is up to a week. The default is 1 hour.

The member gets a message saying a custom verification session was created for them, when it expires, and a **Click here to verify!** link. The reply tells you whether they were notified, so you know if you need to send the link by hand.

## What a bypass link does

* It replaces any verification link the member already had, and cancels their [Auto Kick](https://docsm.authenticateme.xyz/settings/core.md#auto-kick) timer.
* It always opens the web verification page, so every Web-Link check you haven't skipped still runs, even if your server uses Button-Click.
* The success log lists the checks that were skipped.
* A "Bypass Session Created" entry is posted to your General Logs, with the member, who created it, when it expires, the skipped checks, and the link.

> [!WARNING]
>
> The General Logs entry contains the working link. Keep your General Logs channel private to staff.

## When you can't create one

| Message | What it means |
| - | - |
| User is not on the server | The member has to be in the server. |
| You can't create a bypass session for a bot | Bots don't verify. |
| That user is already verified | They don't need a link. [Reset](https://docsm.authenticateme.xyz/moderation/reset-verification.md) them first if they should verify again. |
| This server has no enabled verification checks available for bypass sessions | Nothing that's turned on can be skipped in your current mode. |
