# Manual verification

> Verify a member yourself when they can't get through verification on their own.

Sometimes a real member can't pass verification, for example because their only internet connection is flagged as a VPN. You can verify them yourself.

## Verify a member

**Slash command**

Run `/verify-user user:@member`. You can also paste their user ID instead of mentioning them.

**App**

Right-click the member, or tap their profile on mobile, then choose **Apps → Verify**.

AuthenticateMe then does the following.

* Gives the member the Verified Role, and removes the Unverified Role if you use one.
* Cancels their [Auto Kick](https://docsm.authenticateme.xyz/settings/core.md#auto-kick) timer.
* If they had started verifying, records the verification as done by your moderators, which shows up on the [Analytics](https://docsm.authenticateme.xyz/dashboard/analytics.md) page.
* Posts a "Member verified" entry to your General Logs.
* Closes their help thread, if the [Help Desk](https://docsm.authenticateme.xyz/settings/help-desk.md) is set to close threads automatically.

You need **Manage Roles** by default, and AuthenticateMe needs it too.

> [!TIP]
>
> If you'd rather the member still goes through most checks, send them a [bypass link](https://docsm.authenticateme.xyz/moderation/bypasses.md) that only skips the check they keep failing.

## Something went wrong

If the role can't be given, AuthenticateMe explains why. Usually the Verified Role was deleted, or it sits above AuthenticateMe's role. Run `/health` to find the problem.
